Some Tips On Growing LiliesHello fellow greenthumbs, this week’s gardening tip is for a very popular flower that can be a little tricky growing so that is why we present the following tips. If any of you reading these tips have any requests on what you may need some tips on feel free to leave us a message here.
Lilies are grown from bulbs made up of fleshy overlapping scales. These flowers are known for growing into large clusters of flowering stems. Location – Both variety’s of lilies are grown best in full sun , shade tends to make them grow very floppy. They also need to be grown in a bed that drains well and isnt overly windy. Soil- The best kind of soil for lilies to be grown in is the kind with lots of organic material to prevent drought. They are best grown in groups of 3 – 6 of the same variety and each bulb should be placed from 6-8 inches apart. Make sure to plant the bulbs facing up , divide and replant about every three years. Fertilizer – Fertilize the flower in the spring with 5-10-10 as lilies like very rich fertilizer. A slow release formula is also recomended with lilies . Water – Lilies are fairly draught resistant , watering once a week during extended dry periods is recomended. Also mulching helps retain moisture and control weeds. Pests – Lilies are usually pest free but sometimes slugs can be a problem with new shoots. Just make sure to spray with forceful water and check for bugs often. Over Winter - Its best to mulch newly planted bulbs before winter with anywhere from 4-6 inches of loose compost. When wary of how to protect a plant over winter its best to mulch and leave it there until the first frost of spring passes. Well that’s it for this week , again if anyone has any questions please dont hesitate to ask us questions on our facebook and our website. Until next week .

Pruning the trees in the summer could weaken them and prevent them from surviving the winter. 2) Lawn Care – Is there such a thing as too short ? Well yes, there is . About 2-3 inches is the perfect length, this will give the roots an easier time when retaining water and will cut down on the amount of times youll have to cut the grass. There are also some benefits to longer grass such as reducing noise pollution and cleaning the air you breathe. 3) Mulch- Composted bark mulch is great for adding nutrients and nitrogen back into the soil. Mulch will also help retain water as well as keep your flowers cool during the summer heat and warm during those cold winter months. 4) Keep Those Gardens Clean – Like everything else in life , leaving your gardens unclean can only cause problems. Leaving things unkempt can lead to bacteria , fungus and disease. 5) Budget- No matter what your garden budget it is always important to remember not to spend all of your budget on spring flowers and trees. reserving some funds for later can always prove to be useful to replace plants that have died. Also if you reserve enough money for later on you can take advantage of discounted perennials at some nursery’s that can shut down as early as july. Well those are our garden tips for this week , check back next week for more great tips and always check out www.gardenersgreenhouses.com for great gardening products and more !

Find a place within direct sunlight, and if possible, position the greenhouse so that as the sun rises and falls, the light directly falls on both sides of the roof. The more heat you can provide your plants and herbs within the garden, the better. Use automated vents to release the green house from extreme internal temperatures. – Gardeners Greenhouses (greenhouses for sale in toronto)

Hang Banana’s amongst your Green Tomatoes this season, and you’ll see an incredible improvement in the speed of ripening. Banana’s produce a gas called “Ethylene” which assist in the ripening stage of any plants and vegetables surrounding them… makes sense doesn’t it? Banana’s are constantly grouped together in batches when grown, so when they’re ready to ripen, they work together producing Ethylene to speed eachother along throughout the process. NOTE: Make sure you like the size of your Tomatoes when you start hanging the Banana’s, because there isn’t any turning back. – Gardeners Greenhouses

Plant garlic in rows as close as you can get to the root system of your Tomato plants, over the time of growth associated with your Tomato plants, the garlic holds a much stronger soil impact ratio, which adds flavour to the tomato’s growing within the vicinity of the plants. They normally take approximately 2 Weeks to germinate, and should always be planted when the soil is warm! Be sure to spread them apart approximately 8 to 12 Inches. A great way to achieve this is to plan between Tomato Plants, and in front and rear of Tomato plants to provide an even spread! Try groing Basil and Parsley together directly within the root system area of the Tomato Plants as well! Be sure to properly space the plants to ensure they reach their own individual potential!
